Left over tacos and church.

Making dinner for the kids. Leftover tacos, bbq chicken, red bean and rice. I know, your first thought - CHURCH.

What the heck?

Leftovers. Tonight we are having leftovers. Food previously prepared, some consumed, and the rest kept for the purpose of eating again. This is not a new process. People have been having leftovers for years. Not a surprise.

Tonight it seemed bit different. I actually thought about leftovers.

Amy is away tonight leading her ladies' LIFE group. It was up to me to feed our four children. (I'm not intimidated by the prospect, it is amazing what creations dads can come up with.) In spite of limited options and foods that don't really "match". Currently all of my children are fed, nourished, and contently fulfilled (and if bath time goes well, rested).

So, what about church?

All of us feel like leftovers at some point. Left over by friends. Left over by work. Left over by our culture. In the beginning we may have been displayed proudly and then after a bit, stored in the plastic bowl with the lid that doesn't fit just right. Common. Ordinary. At times a bit used up. Sometimes it appears that we don't "match".

However, when we are put together, and in the hands of one who knows how to prepare us, we can be fed, nourished, content and fulfilled, and yes, even rested.
